The WHIM – Water-Hydrogen Impulse Motor – is a theoretical concept for a fully self-sustaining combustion engine that requires only water and electricity. At its core, a single droplet of water is electrolyzed directly within the engine cylinder. The resulting perfect stoichiometric oxyhydrogen gas mixture (H₂ + O₂) is immediately ignited, generating a pressure wave that drives a piston.
What makes it unique: the resulting steam is condensed and reused in the next cycle. This forms a closed water-energy loop with extremely high efficiency – no fossil fuels, no hydrogen tanks, and no emissions.
The model was officially published under a CC BY 4.0 license on July 7, 2025, and is permanently archived under a DOI. The concept is available to researchers and developers worldwide, provided the original author is credited.
